Thinking out Loud: A Playful Display Font for Creative Projects

Recently, I had the pleasure of testing Thinking out Loud, a thick lettered quirky display font, on a branding project for a local bakery. The moment I opened the blank brand board, I knew this font was going to be a standout.

Thinking out Loud for Logo Design and Brand Identity

Starting with the logo, Thinking out Loud brought an incredibly playful feel to the design. The thick, chunky letters gave the logo a bold and memorable presence. I experimented with different color schemes and found that the font's playful nature complemented both pastel and vibrant palettes. For a bakery, this font perfectly captured the fun and inviting atmosphere we were aiming for.

Thinking out Loud in Packaging Design and Product Labels

Moving on to packaging, Thinking out Loud continued to shine. I used it for the main product labels, and the result was a delightful, eye-catching design. The font’s quirky style made the packaging stand out on the shelf, which is crucial in a competitive market. It also worked well for smaller details like ingredient lists and nutritional information, though I did find that it was best used for short phrases rather than long, detailed text.

Thinking out Loud for Social Media Graphics and Web Design

When it came to social media, Thinking out Loud was a natural fit. I designed several Instagram posts and story templates, and the font’s playful character added a unique touch. The thick, bold letters were easily readable even on smaller screens, making it perfect for quick, engaging content. For the bakery’s website, I used Thinking out Loud in the hero section, and it created a strong, welcoming first impression. However, for body text and longer paragraphs, I paired it with a clean sans serif font to ensure readability.

Thinking out Loud as a Headline Font and Accent Typeface

In terms of versatility, Thinking out Loud excels as a headline and accent font. I tested it on a few different designs, including a poster for a special event and a business card. In both cases, the font’s thick, quirky style added a distinctive flair. For the poster, it was the perfect choice for the main event title, while on the business card, it worked well for the name and tagline, creating a memorable and professional look.

Font Pairing and Practical Considerations for Thinking out Loud

When using Thinking out Loud, it’s important to consider font pairing. I found that it works beautifully with a simple, elegant serif or a clean, modern sans serif. This combination helps balance the playful nature of Thinking out Loud with a more traditional, readable typeface. Additionally, I reviewed the included styles and alternates, which provided a range of options to fine-tune the design. Before finalizing any client work, I always recommend checking the commercial font licensing to ensure all uses are covered, especially for brand identity, packaging, and digital products.

Overall, Thinking out Loud is a fantastic addition to any designer’s toolkit. Its playful, thick lettering makes it a standout choice for creative projects, from logos and packaging to social media and web design. Just remember to use it thoughtfully, balancing its quirkiness with more conventional fonts to maintain readability and professionalism.
